Genital Warts

Genital Warts Information

Genital Warts, also known as condyloma, is a sexually transmitted disease caused by HPV (the human papiloma virus). The fact that it is a sexually transmitted disease is an important genital warts information because it can help prevent the infection. In rare cases infection may occur indirectly, through contact with infected items (towels, etc.). Children my become infected during delivery if the mother was previously infected with genital warts virus. Genital warts are different than warts commonly found on hands and feet and must be treated seriously.

The most important ideea is that of preventing the infection with genital warts virus, but it is important to know that there isn't an one hundred percent sure method of prevention (except celibacy). Other protective factors against genital warts virus infection are long-life mutual monogamy and use of condoms and spermicides. Condoms reduce the risk of getting genital warts, but they dont't guarantee total protection.

Also an important genital warts information is that not everybody infected with genital warts virus develops genital warts. So, just by knowing about and being able to recognize genital warts you are not always protected against the risk of infection.

Also, it is important to know that there is treatment for genital warts, but not for the infection with genital warts virus (human papilloma virus); so, even if gential warts are treated, the virus remains in the skin and the person infected passes the virus to sexlife partners during vaginal or anal intercourse, even when he/she doesn't have genital hpv warts that can be seen.

The infection with genital warts virus may cause some changes that can lead even to cancer, especially in women with warts on the cervix.

Genital warts may have many and varied appearances, from completely flat forms to bumpy forms or even rough cauliflower-like forms of genital warts, appearing in groups or on their own. When genital warts are completely flat they cannot be seen, but they can cause an itchy and burning sensation and can be revealed by the doctor: the doctor applies a substance on the skin (acetic acid), reavealing "invisible" genital warts that appear as white patches.

The regions of appearance for genital hpv warts are for men especially on the penis, underneath the foreskin, at the end of the urethra and on the area around the anus. In women genital warts appear more often on the lips of the vulva, in the vagina, by the urethra or on the area around the anus. Penis warts, anal warts and vaginal warts are easily detected by the pacient, but gential warts appeared in the urethra are detected when they cause symptoms.
